Drink coffee? Want a machine that does what it says on the box? This is it. Ready to go out of the box. Run it through twice without coffee to get rid of any ‘newness’ taste and then it goes like a trooper! All the bits you need to clean are robust and easy to get to. Its price belies its simplicity!
Haden Coffee Maker – don’t bother. Supplier great – no problems with that. Coffee maker didn’t make hot enough coffee!! Cheap and nasty as well. Binned it after 4 weeks. Bought a Morphy Richards – winderful
I bought one of these from Amazon several months ago and use it five days a week to make my morning jug of coffee. It is a basic device that reliably makes good filter coffee; certainly not the most durable piece of equipment I’ve ever owned but good quality for the price and despite being rather ham-fisted I have not yet managed to break any part of it.
I like the easily visible water level, the lack of unnecessary features (the only control is the on/off switch) and a lovely little plastic scoop that came in the box which means that I always use the same amount of coffee. I use a dark roast and the flavour is rich without being bitter partly because the water entering the filter is not quite at boiling point and partly because the hot plate is not hot enough to simmer the coffee when it is left standing even for an hour or so.
I can’t remember whether or not there was a reusable filter in the box but if there was then I would have thrown it away as soon as I unpacked it. I use standard 1×4 filter papers and have found that if I fold over the two joined edges then the paper fits perfectly.
Dose exactly what it says on the tin. Only problem is it isnt big enough. 10 cups is 10 small coffee cups which equates to 4 1/2 mugs. That being said its quick it keeps the coffee hot and is user freindly.
I’m an American living in Calabria (Italy) and was looking for a good “American” coffee pot for the occasional “long” coffee. I’m very happy with the product. The reusable filter is extremely helpful for me and the machine makes the coffee pretty quickly.
It isn’t the *best* coffee I’ve ever had, but it gets the job done and is a great value.
I wanted a coffee machine but didn’t want to spend a fortune on one.
I tend to stick with well known brand names when purchasing goods and Haden is not a brand name I’d come across before. However, after several weeks of using it for my daily caffeine fix I’m very happy with the unit.
I too use paper filters, rather than the supplied plastic one, which makes cleaning much easier, just dump the used paper filter, rinse the removable filter holder and the jug and you’re all set to go again.
No frills, no fancies, reasonably attractive appearance . . . it just does what it’s intended for.
I echo what others have said – it’s a simple machine, incredibly easy to use, no plasticy taste whatsoever (although I would recommend putting aside their permanent filter – the white plasticy thing – and using filter papers instead), great value and the coffee tastes good.
The coffee comes out hot, but not boiling hot, so for those of you who need your coffee to burn your tongue then maybe be aware of that, but I imagine the temperature would suffice for most.
The only other thing to mention is you can’t leave the pot on there for more than about an hour, because it’ll start to taste funny, but I think that goes for most coffee machines and has to do with the inherent nature of coffee itself, not the machine. Besides if you’re making coffee for several people at once, it’s unlikely to be an issue.
Overall – if you’re looking purely for a filter coffee machine that’s no fuss, not too expensive and does the job, this would be a great choice.
This is a no nonsense coffee machine that does, in fact, make very good coffee. It is cheap, which is why I bought it. There are much better coffee machines out there, but for a no-frills machine, and most importantly — GOOD COFFEE, this machine does the job. It does not burn or overheat the jug, it is quiet, fast, not too steamy, comes with a serving spoon and a reusable filter, and looks good. However, pouring water into the machine can be tricky if the machine is in a corner of the worktop, like mine, and I sometime spill water down the back. Poor design. And the little water level indicator bob does not seem to work on my machine. It never moves up or down, no matter how much water goes in! This may just be a unique fault though. But I know how much water I need for my morning coffee, so the bob is not essential. I like this little coffee machine, but the water spilling can be an irritation sometimes! If you are looking for a cheap machine, I recommend this little chap.
I was looking for a really simple filter coffee maker, but wanted something well made and likely to be durable.
Cheap can be nasty, but in this case it certainly isn’t. Basic it is: the only control is a large illuminated on/off switch. But what more do you want?
I gave it a couple of runs through with clean water, and then discarded the plastic ‘permanent’ filter as I prefer to use paper filters (the machine works just as well with either).
The first coffee made was fine – no sign of the plastic smell some earlier reviewers have noted. It’s considerably quicker than the machine it replaced. It keeps the coffee at a sensible temperature – not too hot so it spoils, not too cold for good drinking.
It’s hard to assess quality of manufacture and likely life span, but this seems to be made of high quality plastic moulding, and the visible components seem good.
The stated 10 cup capacity is meaningless as always . . . Filling to the 7 cup level provides four standard full mugs – about a litre. Don’t be tempted to fill beyond the marked maximum, as there’s an overflow slot at the back of the machine, and it will pour out on your work surface!
Overall judgement: good quality and excellent value.

I love my coffee maker and use it on a regular basis. The pot is kept at a drinkable temp without burning the coffee.
